Choctaw Casino Resort is hosting its first World Series of Poker (WSOP) event that kicks off today (January 6th).
The eighth stop on the official WSOP Tour calendar for 2010-11, the casino is situated in Durant, Fort Worth - approximately one hour north of Dallas - and it is the first time an event has been organized in the area.
In total, the WSOP is holding 51 contests as part of the Tour's stop at the Choctaw, culminating in the $1,600 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em Main Event that is scheduled for January 22nd.
"This is a huge poker market that has clamored for high stakes tournament poker and we're ecstatic to be hosting a WSOP Circuit [tournament] in this gorgeous property in Durant," said WSOP vice-president, Ty Stewart.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old New York paramedic Jason Stone recently scooped first place at the WSOP Eastern Regional Championship event #11 at Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City.
He took home $20,184 for his week's work, beating 288 rivals along the way.
