Wichita casino plans 'back on course'

2010-02-17 17:52:35

A casino planned for the south of Wichita looks to be going ahead, despite previous concerns that an American Indian-run venue launching nearby could spoil the initiative's profit levels.

Executive director of the Kansas Lottery Ed Van Petten told the Associated Press that he is "ecstatic" that the project will proceed, following a new construction and management agreement with the Chisholm Creek partnership.

The $225 million hotel and casino resort would be built and run by the latter, while the lottery would own the gambling rights.

"We finally have an agreement that we can all live with," Mr Van Petten was quoted as saying.

The state will take 22 per cent of the revenues from the gaming establishment, with Chisholm Creek being the only bidder left for the project after three years.

Kansas will also be home to the Hollywood Casino, with proposals for the structure given the green light recently after the confirmation of background checks and licensing agreements.
