Kansas casino receives green light

2010-02-15 11:42:58

A new gambling establishment planned for Kansas has been given the go-ahead after receiving a number of background checks and licensing agreements.

The Hollywood Casino, due to be located around the state's speedway, is now ready for construction following concerns that the project could get delayed.

Chief executive officer of one of the companies associated with developer International Speedway Corporation Lesa Kennedy said: "The casino is just a starting point of all the good things to come as we fulfill our commitment to seek a second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race."

Over 1,700 building jobs are expected to be created, while a further 1,000 full-time positions are likely once the initiative is completed.

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission signed off on the $368 million venue last week.

The Associated Press recently reported comments made by Julie Menghini, a Pittsburg democrat, that moves to increase the number of casinos in the state are "long overdue".
