Singapore casino confirms opening date

2010-02-12 13:28:34

The first casino in Singapore is opening its doors this weekend, as part of a phased introduction of a new resort.

Resort World Sentosa makes its debut on Sunday (February 14th), corresponding with the first day of the Year of the Tiger.

And guests will have the chance to get a sneak preview of the Universal Studios theme park, which is set to officially open next month.

"We are ready to soft-open the casino but are still fine-tuning the rides and shows in the theme park," said Tan Hee Teck, chief executive of the resort.

While the casino is expected to be the main attraction, the Genting-owned development includes shopping and dining outlets, while four hotels opened there in January.

Earlier this week, Reuters noted that Deutsche Bank is expecting Singapore's first casino to make more than a billion Singapore dollars ($708 million) in its initial 12 months of operation.
