Davenport authorities 'want bigger casino'

2010-02-12 13:25:14

Leaders of a city in the US state of Iowa are calling for a new casino to be built.

According to WHBF, authorities in Davenport are hoping its Rhythm City Casino will be able to move to land.

In the hope of benefiting from a bigger and better facility, state senator Joe Seng is proposing a bill that would facilitate the relocation.

And mayor Bill Gluba noted that a land-based casino will bring financial benefits to the city in the long term.

"We were in Las Vegas and, quite frankly, we've been talking to various gambling interests who might consider Davenport but they all want to be on land," he was quoted as saying, adding that the bill is expected to pass easily.

Davenport City Council, which is made up of eight people elected from each of the local wards as well as another two members chosen on a city-wide basis, is also backing the proposal.
