Navajo Nation seeks casino construction plans

2010-02-10 15:41:54

The Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise has expressed its intent to go ahead with a casino in Upper Fruitland by publishing a request from architectural companies to perform master plan studies of the structure.

Council delegate for the region LoRenzo Bates said proposals for the gambling establishment are currently on track and is following the initial steps of confirmation, the Farmington Daily Times reports.

"The project is jumping through the hoops, the preliminary hoops," he stated. "We need a master plan to finalize the preliminary studies."

This venture would mark only the second casino on Navajo land, with the first - Fire Rock - proving a success when it opened in November 2008.

Gaming chief of the Nation Robert Winter noted the organisation is looking to finance a range of initiatives in the industry.

The Tohono O'odham tribe in Arizona recently stated that plans to build a casino will be going ahead, local paper the Star reported, despite reservations from governor Jan Brewer.
