Akwesasne Mohawk Casino gives out $1m in jackpots

Over $1 million worth of jackpot winnings has been secured by three individuals gambling at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino on the intersection between the US and Canada.

Phillip Huckins from Brasher Falls took home the lion's share of the spoils by landing a $881,519.83 slots machine prize, the Watertown Daily Times reports.

Commenting on his luck, Mr Huckins said: "I'm the type of guy that says this could never happen to me … My sister is actually the one that is usually there playing."

Carol Stewart from Quebec was also triumphant at the gaming establishment, pocketing $71,101.94 from the Mohawk Super Jackpot, while an unnamed person - also from the French-speaking province - won $76,679.10 at the Caribbean stud table.

The casino's acting marketing director Darlene Dilcox said that this could indicate 2010 may be a good year for gaming enthusiast.

Standard Freeholder recently reported that US residents of Akwesasne have voted for the launch of a new gambling establishment in the territory.
