Charity event added to Irish Poker Festival calendar

2009-05-26 16:51:54

A charity poker tournament has been added to the schedule of the Irish Poker Festival this year.

The latest addition to the calendar will be a €250 no-limit hold'em competition on August 15th, with the €25 registration fee and €50 from each entry going to the Irish Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

It will be held at the Macau Sporting Club in Cork and is to be part of a line-up of major events in the country.

Among those who could be in Ireland for the Irish Poker Festival is Annette Obrestad, who has competed there in the past.

The 20 year-old star could be joined by other top players, such as Ian Woodley, Roy Brindley and Marty Smyth.

Last year, the main event was won by Rob Taylor, who took down the €46,000 first prize and the Irish Poker Classic Champion.

Prior to this, his largest cash was when he just missed out on heads-up play in the €1,000 no-limit hold'em main event at the Sporting Emporium Poker Festival in Dublin two years ago when he pocketed €16,000.
