One of the companies bidding to run a state-owned casino in Kansas has withdrawn from the process.
Golden Gaming revealed that it is pulling out due to financial problems due to the current economic climate, leaving two firms in the running.
The venue is to be located in Wyandotte County and the Kansas Lottery is due to complete negotiations over contracts by the end of next month, with the proposals then being passed on to the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board.
Commenting on the latest development, mayor of Edwardsville John McTaggart said: "While we are disappointed by Golden's decision, we look forward to working with the unified government in ensuring a successful casino project is developed that benefits all the citizens of Wyandotte County."
Earlier this month, Lakes Entertainment revealed that it had submitted a proposal to build a new casino resort in Sumner County, Kansas, with 1,700 jobs expected to be created in the area.
