Jobs to be shed by Las Vegas Sands

2009-05-13 16:04:21

Las Vegas Sands is planning to cut jobs at its casinos in Macau and Hong Kong, it has been confirmed.

Chief operating officer Michael Leven revealed that the operator is attempting to reduce costs and shedding up to 4,000 jobs by September is one of the ways it is doing so.

He explained that the majority of those affected will be expatriates and that some will be transferred to Singapore, although many will be made redundant.

The move comes after Las Vegas Sands ceased work on a $12 billion development on the Cotai Strip last year, in addition to shelving projects in Nevada and Pennsylvania.

Earlier this month, Melco Crown Entertainment revealed that its new City of Dreams casino resort is to be open in Macau in June.

More than 20 new restaurants and a pair of hotels will be included in the development, with around 7,000 jobs expected to be created.
