Horseshoe Casino sees revenue boost

2009-05-11 17:01:36

A casino in Indiana has bucked a local trend by significantly increasing its revenue despite the economic downturn.

The Horseshoe Casino in Hammond brought in more than $49 million last month, compared to $40.5 million in April of last year.

Much of the increase has been attributed to the venue's expansion, which took place last summer.

With around $500 million being spent on upgrading the facilities, editor of Indiana Gaming Insight Ed Feigenbaum said there is "no doubt" that this had an impact.

"Horseshoe has so many more amenities to offer people, making them one of the bigger players in the Chicago market," he added.

In addition, the closure of the Empress Casino in Joliet, Illinois due to a fire in March is thought to have led to an increased number of people attending Horseshoe.

Last week, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board revealed that the state's seven casinos experienced a 13.76 per cent rise in revenue in April, compared to the same month a year earlier.
