Casinos in Las Vegas could be set to become smoke-free, following the publication of a new report.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommended that all smoking in casinos be banned in order to prevent workers being exposed to secondhand smoke.
And Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights has welcomed the proposal - calling for action to be taken across the country.
It noted that Nevada currently has a smoke-free workplace law in place, but that it does not cover the gaming areas of casinos.
Executive director of the organization Cynthia Hallett remarked: "Casino workers deserve the same rights as other workers, including the right to a healthy, safe workplace, free from toxic secondhand smoke."
A new casino complex is to be opened in Las Vegas in December, after MGM Mirage and Dubai World settled a dispute over their CityCenter joint venture, with a funding deal also being reached with the project's lenders.
