2009-05-07 15:11:40

A new casino resort is to be opened in Macau next month, it has been confirmed.

Melco Crown Entertainment has scheduled the City of Dreams development - set to be the company's flagship property - for a June 1st opening.

Located in Cotai, it is expected to create around 7,000 jobs and the initial phase will feature 520 table games and 1,350 gaming machines.

More than 20 new restaurants will be included, while the Crown Towers and Hard Rock hotels will each have around 300 guest rooms.

Lawrence Ho, co-chairman and chief executive of Melco Crown Entertainment, explained that five years of planning and development have gone into the project.

"Our goal with City of Dreams … has been to set a new standard of gaming and entertainment experience in Asia. I believe that we will achieve this goal," he said.

The Macau Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau recently revealed that casino's in the region experienced an eight per cent boost in revenue in the first quarter of the year.
