Inaugural slots tournament held in Las Vegas

2009-05-07 16:54:32

More than $260,000 has been won at the first ever World Series of Slots tournament in Las Vegas.

The event attracted a total of 280 competitors and they competed in head-to-head competition through eight rounds at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino.

Michelle Leone, a San Diego resident who had travelled specifically for the tournament, eventually took home the $100,000 top prize and a championship bracelet, with Vera Panjanon-Wolf earning $15,000 for placing second.

A bonus tournament was also held for those who did not make it past the first round, with guests playing one 20-minute session for a chance to pocket $10,000.

Tilman Fertitta, chief executive of Golden Nugget, described the event as a "huge success" and said it would be repeated in the future.

"A World Series of Slots has never been done before and players from all over loved the head-to-head challenge," he added.

The Golden Nugget casino features over 1,200 slot and video poker machines.
