Casinos in Pennsylvania are enjoying increases in revenue from slot machines, research has indicated.
According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), the state's seven casinos saw a 13.76 per cent rise last month, compared to April 2008.
The figure of nearly $151 million was up from less than $133 million a year ago, while slots tax revenues for the first ten months of the state fiscal year were up 26.2 per cent.
Mary DiGiacomo Colins, chair of the PGCB, noted that further growth and new jobs are set to be created by the forthcoming opening of the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem.
"The success of regulated gaming can be seen by how the numbers are exceeding projections, even as the economy struggles," she added.
A recent study by the Pew Charitable Trusts' Philadelphia Research Initiative indicated that 53 per cent of residents back plans for a new casino in Philadelphia.
