California casino pays out state's biggest ever jackpot

2009-04-28 17:11:56

California's Red Hawk Casino has paid out the largest jackpot in the history of the state.

A woman named as Sandi M, from the San Francisco Bay area, picked up over $1.8 million after striking it lucky on a slot machine at the venue.

General manager of Red Hawk Casino Peter Fordham noted that she joins a list of recent winners, with five players having hit jackpots over $100,000 in the last four months.

Sandi herself said that she will be donating part of her winnings to a local food bank, as well as taking a trip to Florida to surprise her mother.

She added that the jackpot came after inserting just $20, stating: "All of a sudden there it was. I stared at the machine, called my friend over and then I started shaking. I've never had something like this happen."

Last week, Table Mountain Casino revealed that its Massive Cash game paid out a jackpot of $49,735 - the closest it has come to its $50,000 limit.
