Casino tycoons meet in Macau

2009-04-17 12:25:49

Former casino rivals Stanley Ho and Sheldon Adelson met together in Macau this week to discuss co-operative strategies to boost revenue in the Chinese city.

Bloomberg reported that Mr Ho, chairman of Macau's largest casino operator SJM Holdings, met with Las Vegas Sands chief executive officer Mr Adelson and a number of other casino operators in the city on April 14th before the pair had lunch together.

"Everyone agreed not to compete, to have enough rice to eat and to get more taxes for the government," said Mr Ho, following the conference.

Further discussions among the operators are set to take place next month.

The casino operators have previously made public criticisms of each other to compete for business, according to the news source.

Macau is the only city in China where casinos are legal.

Las Vegas Sands also has casino properties on the Las Vegas Strip and is currently constructing resorts in Singapore and the US state of Pennsylvania.
