An expert on slot machines has explained why casinos are more likely to offer deals on rooms than gambling games themselves.
Responding to a letter to the Casino City Times, John Robinson stated that changing slot machines so that they pay out more often is not only a big expense, but because the difference will only be played out over the long-term, most punters will not notice it.
"It's much easier for casinos to offer better room deals and extra comps and benefits for playing. In addition, it's a better deal that players know they are getting," he remarked.
A number of major casinos have slashed room rates in recent months in order to attract customers during the global economic downturn.
However, none of the big players have announced that they have modified their slot machines to pay out more.
Liz Benston wrote for the Las Vegas Sun this week that reducing room rates has often been viewed as "a fail-safe way" for casinos to bring in gamblers during economically unstable times.
