Online poker "very, very safe"

Consumers will soon come to realise that online gambling is as safe as any other form of betting, one expert has advised.

A spokesman for Poker Player, a UK-based magazine that publishes tips, strategies and news stories on the game, said despite some uncertainty internet gaming has been proven to be "very, very safe".

Ross Jarvis, online editor at the publication, explained that some issues had been raised by a recent report that found some public distrust of online betting services, but added this was completely unfounded.

"It's been proven that online poker is a very, very safe activity to do," he added.

"The random card generators are completely safe and there's no way to manipulate them."

According to a Gambling Commission survey released earlier this year, 9.7 per cent of people taken part in some form of remote gambling during December 2007.
