Slots pay out $5m for Oregon player

A slot machine has paid out over $5 million to a lucky winner from Oregon.

When the symbols on the Wheel of Fortune game lined up, the anonymous Hillsboro woman thought she had pocketed $60 - maybe $600 - after betting $4.

But the Three Rivers Casino and Hotel machine in Florence told her to call an attendant. She had been playing for about one hour.

The player took home a total of $5,284,316.55 which is a record for Three Rivers and, since 2004, the third jackpot won at the venue.

In 2005, a player pocketed $1,325,180 and three years later someone was the fortunate recipient of $855,769.

The slots in question, which are called the Penny Wheel of Fortune machines, work progressively, as they are connected up to others on the west coast and then accumulate percentages of each game, enabling bigger payoffs.

Other games available to play at Three Rivers include craps, blackjack, roulette, video games, bingo and poker.
