Missouri casino revenues increase

2009-03-11 09:42:43

Revenue from the casino industry in Missouri is increasing despite the ongoing economic downturn, it emerged today.

February 2009 saw more patrons through the doors and higher incomes compared to the same month a year previous, new statistics have shown.

Citing figures from the Missouri Gaming Commission, the Associated Press said numbers were up due to a "sharp rise" in the popularity of Lumiere Place in St Louis, where 54 per cent more people visited and revenues were 38 per cent above those of February 2008.

Ameristar Casinos vice-president Troy Stemming attributed the results to various factors, suggesting that while Las Vegas and Atlantic City rely on income from tourists, the Midwest does not.

"There's removal of the loss limits and people staying closer to home, and not traveling long distances," he explained.

In addition to its accommodation offerings, Lumiere Place also has three nightlife options named Aqua, Globar and the Sleek Ultralounge.
