WPT heads to Morocco

2009-03-05 16:07:44

Morocco is to be the setting for the first ever World Poker Tour (WPT) in Africa, it has been revealed.

Scheduled to begin in October, the event will take place at the Casino de Marrakech, described by the event organisers as "an ideal location".

Alongside the main game, there will also be a ladies' tournament and lots of extra competitions going on.

It is hoped that players from across the globe will participate in the "unique and attractive event", said event chief executive and spokesman Alexandre Dreyfus.

The tour is also intended to "emphasize Marrakech's attributes as a highly desirable destination for European and African poker players", he added.

Meanwhile, recent WPT news saw Nicholas Gonzales win the final game at the 7th Annual WPT Invitational tournament, which included celebrities such as Shannon Elizabeth and Benji Madden at the table last month.

It took place at the Commerce Casino in order to benefit the Vine Group, its charity partner.
