Four casinos 'could come to Ohio'

2009-02-26 16:56:21

Ohio could be the location for four completely new casino and hotel complexes, according to a local newspaper.

Citing unnamed sources, the Plain Dealer said Thursday that My Ohio Now and Penn National Gaming lead the group behind the proposal.

Cleveland-based businessman Jeff Jacobs said in a statement that although he has not made any commitments, he has been approached about the potential for gaming plans in the state.

The publication said one of the possible casinos would be situated in Columbus, with others in Toledo, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Each would house at least 5,000 machines and be open 24 hours a day.

It also noted an interview conducted earlier this year with Ohio governor Ted Striclland, who said he may "soften" his anti-gambling position given the current conditions caused by the economic climate.

The state already has numerous horse racing sites in locations such as Beulah Park and Scioto Downs.
