A recent study published in the Journal of Consumer Research has given insight into why people are tempted to gather around casino gamblers on a winning streak.
Arul Mishra of the University of Utah conducted a study - The Influence of Contagious versus Non-contagious Product Groupings on Consumer Preferences - using Pepsi bottles and claimed that his findings demonstrate that people believe positive and negative attributes are transferable between individuals and objects.
The study found that people were more likely to select a drink of Pepsi situated away from a 'defective' bottle than they were to choose one next to it.
"It is common to find that people consider luck to be contagious," he remarked. "They are likely to believe that being near a person on a winning streak somehow enhances their own chances of winning."
In other gambling news, publication Poker News has given a positive review to the card room at the Fiesta Henderson Casino in Nevada.
