A new 33-storey casino in the Rocky Mountains was "topped off" by developers and community leaders during a ceremony this week.

On Thursday (January 22nd), Ameristar announced that its new Ameristar Casino Black Hawk is now officially the tallest building between Salt Lake City and Denver.

According to the firm "topping off" is a construction milestone which signifies that a structure has reached its tallest level.

With 536 rooms, the luxury hotel and associated spa is set to open later this year, the group said.

"The Denver market already is familiar with Ameristar's exceptional guest service, gaming, and food and beverage offerings," said Gordon Kanofsky, vice-chairman and chief executive officer of the firm."

"We now look forward to introducing our high-quality accommodations and luxury amenities to Colorado," he added.

The Casino Black Hawk features a 14-table poker room, as well 12 blackjack tables and a casino floor measuring 55,000 square feet.

Ameristar also owns casinos in Kansas City, east Chicago and Vicksburg, among other locations.
