One of the world's largest casinos, the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, is to reduce the wages of every member of staff from the start of next month.
Employees in non-management roles and those who work on an hourly basis will see their salaries cut by four percent on February 1st, with 7.5 percent cuts for middle managers and ten percent cuts for vice-presidents and other senior workers.
Chief executive of the resort Mitchell Etess blamed the economy for forcing the casino to make such a decision.
"Due to unprecedented market conditions, the authority has been forced to make a number of difficult, but necessary, decisions to reduce our operating costs," he remarked.
Mohegan Sun is not the first major gaming establishment to cut pay amid pressure from the economy in recent months.
Australia's the Daily Telegraph revealed this week that Crown Macau had reduced staff salaries by eight percent at the start of December.
