The US casino industry is unlikely to get a federal bailout package such as the one being proposed for the country's biggest automakers - General Motors, Ford and Chrysler.
This is the claim of Liz Benston of the Las Vegas Sun, who stated that despite the gaming industry being in a similar position to the car sector, a rescue package probably will not be on the way as most operators will not want increased scrutiny from the central government.
Furthermore, gambling does not have the same pull as automobiles, with the latter considered to be one of the country's "flagship" industries.
"Governor Jim Gibbons has asked Washington to help Nevada get through the downturn," commented Ms Benston.
"Still, casino bosses won't be heading to Washington to beg for a bailout."
MGM Mirage, Harrah's Entertainment, Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Casinos, which dominate the Las Vegas Strip between them, have all reported suffering at the hands of the financial crisis during 2008.
