Sycuan tribe calls off casino expansion plans

2008-12-05 15:57:25

The Sycuan Indian tribe in San Diego is no longer planning to expand its Dehesa Valley casino to include more slot machines, it has been reported.

According to the Associated Press, the San Diego Union-Tribune revealed that ongoing problems with the economy were behind the decision.

Daniel Tucker, Sycuan chairman, explained the reason for the change of plan in a letter to California's governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

An expansion at the resort had been on the cards for more than two years, with the casino obtaining permission to increase its slot machine offering from 2,000 terminals to 5,000 back in 2006.

In addition to slot machines, which generate more revenue than any other gambling activity for casinos in the US, the Sycuan resort offers bingo, blackjack, pai gow, poker and World Poker Tournament, while for those wanting a break from gaming there are three 18-hole golf courses, tennis courts and several restaurants.
