Commerce Casino adds new tournaments 'to gain prestige'

2008-12-03 17:05:23

The Commerce Casino in California has added a number of new tournaments to the 2009 LA Poker Classic in order to raise the standing of the event on the poker circuit.

Matt Savage, the new director of the competition, stated that the organisers were hoping to attract more players than ever to the card playing extravaganza, which concludes with a $10,000 World Poker Tour (WPT) main event.

Included in the new line-up are $10,000 HORSE, pot-limit Omaha and heads-up tournaments.

Savage commented: "We feel that the addition of these championship events will add to the prestige of the LA Poker Classic and attract players from around the world to the Commerce."

The 2008 LA Poker Classic will perhaps be remembered best as the event when Phil Ivey won his first WPT title after reaching the final table on seven previous occasions.

He received $1,596,100 for the victory, defeating fellow luminaries Quinn Do, Phil Hellmuth, Nam Le and Scott Montgomery on the last day of the competition.
