Murren to replace Lanni at MGM Mirage

2008-11-19 12:19:46

Chief operating officer Jim Murren is to be promoted to the positions of chairman of the board and chief executive at MGM Mirage when incumbent Terrence Lanni steps down at the end of the month.

MGM Mirage made the announcement this week following confirmation that Mr Lanni was to retire from his role after more than 13 years in charge of the company.

Mr Murren appeared to be the popular choice to take over at the top, with Mr Lanni - who will remain on the board at the casino operator - recommending that he be his replacement.

Kirk Kerkorian, the majority shareholder at MGM Mirage, commented: "Jim is a remarkable and multifaceted leader in whom I have the utmost confidence."

Mr Murren claimed to be "honored to have been chosen" as a replacement.

The news came as MGM Mirage Hospitality and Asian Coast Development announced its plans to develop a new casino resort in Vietnam.
