Changes to be made to LA Poker Classic structure

2008-11-13 13:36:57

The 2009 LA Poker Classic, which will get underway at the Commerce Casino in February, is set to differ from previous years.

World Poker Tour (WPT) titlist Roy Winston wrote in his Card Player blog that he had spoken to tournament director Matt Savage about the event and revealed that changes are to be made to start times, chips and tournament structure.

Several notable card sharps, including Doyle Brunson, have been critical of recent poker competitions for finishing too late at night, but Savage appears to be attempting to remedy that problem at the Commerce, changing start times from 15:00 to 13:00.

He is also introducing two HORSE events to increase the variety of poker on offer.

Winston commented: "The Commerce has been the capital of poker for live [cash game] action … now with Matt at the helm, I expect the tournaments will match that same level."

The LA Poker Classic is headlined by a WPT competition, which was won in 2008 by Phil Ivey.
