Casino revenues fall in Missouri

2008-11-11 12:31:11

Missouri's casino industry experienced a decline in revenues during October, with the figure of $78.7 million down $1 million on the year before, it has been reported.

According to the St Louis Business Journal, the Missouri Gaming Commission and Illinois Gaming Board revealed a significant decrease in revenue figures across five of the St Louis' six gaming venues.

Lumiere Place, which opened in December, made up much of the shortfall, taking in $12.7 million, while rival venues experienced revenue falls of as much as 57 percent.

The figures provide more bad news for the local gambling industry, following on from a recent referendum that saw casino taxes increase to an adjusted gross rate of 21 percent.

Elsewhere in the US casino sector, the Arizona Republic reports that the $60 million Lone Butte casino will open on November 20th, despite Arizona suffering large decreases in gaming revenue over the last quarter.
