Laughlin 'a quieter alternative' to Las Vegas

2008-11-07 19:23:05

The city of Laughlin, Nevada offers a quieter alternative to traditional gambling cities such as Las Vegas or Reno, Roger Petterson of the Associated Press has suggested.

With a selection of hotels, casinos and restaurants to choose from, the sunny city is located 80 miles south of bustling Las Vegas.

Gambling aficionados will be thrilled by the city's selection of poker tournaments, Mr Petterson stated, while golfers and outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do with a number of nearby golf courses, river tours and boat rentals.

The Harrah's Laughlin Casino and Hotel hosts daily no-limit Hold'Em poker tournaments, while the Tropicana Express Hotel Casino, the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall and the River Palms Resort Casino also host ongoing poker events.

Laughlin is located on the Colorado River and is thought to attract around four million visitors each year.

According to VisitLaughlin.com, the city was established in the 1940s and quickly became a popular destination for gold and silver miners.
