Mississippi casino 'builds ties with locals'

2008-10-28 18:01:21

A new casino set to open today (October 28th) in Vicksburg, Mississippi intends to establish ties with the entire region, the Clarion Ledger has reported.

The Riverwalk Casino and Hotel, which is expected to be opened this afternoon by state gaming commissioner Larry Gregory, displays artwork from local artists on its main floor and involved local architects and construction workers throughout the building process.

In addition, Christi Kilroy, executive director of the Vicksburg-Warren County chamber of commerce, stated that the new facility will provide additional benefit for the area's parks, restaurants, shops and other attractions and will boost employment in the region.

"You're going to have 500 more salaries in the community," she added.

The $100 million facility measures a total of 120,000 square feet and will operate 24 hours a day.

Its 25,000 square foot all-on-one-floor gaming area features 18 gaming tables, as well as 805 slot machines.
