Nevada casino revenues down again

2008-10-10 14:38:28

Nevada casino revenues continued to decline in August, the latest figures have revealed.

The Associated Press (AP) reports that state tax collections from gambling were down by approximately six percent compared to the year before.

Frank Streshley of the Nevada Gaming Control Board suggested that it is not declining visitor figures that are contributing to the downturn, but people simply being more frugal with their money.

"What you're seeing is customers still coming in, but their spending is way off from what it was a year ago," the analyst remarked.

The news comes as Larry Mullin of the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City said he expects revenues from the New Jersey gaming capital's resorts in September to be down by as much as 15 percent, according to the AP.

Official statistics from the Casino Control Commission relating to September revenue figures will come out later today (Friday October 10th).
