AC officials listen to Trump's smoking ban concerns

2008-10-03 12:18:16

Concerns over a proposed smoking ban voiced by Donald Trump, as well as other gaming executives, have been taken on board by City Council in Atlantic City.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, serial entrepreneur Donald Trump said that introducing the smoking ban would negatively affect the gambling industry.

"The smoking ban will have a huge, negative impact on Atlantic City - beyond any competition, beyond anything. All we can do is to ask the council to reconsider," said Mr Trump.

He added that a loss of business in this sector would lead to a loss of millions of dollars in tax revenue for the area.

Indeed the mayor of the city told the paper that Mr Trump has a "legitimate" concern over the effect a smoking ban would have on the gambling and casino sector.

Smoking bans have had a big impact on casino revenues around the world in recent years, with UK operator Rank among those hit particularly badly.
