Cambodia 'has potential' as a gaming market

2008-09-29 12:02:26

There is plenty of potential in Cambodia's gambling market, one industry insider has suggested.

Antonio Fong, the managing director of Macau firm Well Entertainment, was quoted by the Phnom Pen Post as saying the country is part of his company's plans to target south-east Asia over the next few years.

"We can see a potential market in Cambodia because the gaming industry here is improving," he remarked.

"Cambodia stands at the centre of markets in Singapore, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand."

Well Entertainment was in Phnom Pen last week to stage a casino gaming exhibition.

It reportedly received a "mixed" response from those in attendance.

Asia has risen to be a hotbed of casino gambling in recent years, thanks to the rapid growth of the Chinese administrative district of Macau.

The region recently overtook Las Vegas as the world's richest gaming destination and looks set to eclipse the entire state of Nevada by the end of this year.
