Macau's success 'is likely to continue'

2008-09-09 12:03:55

Macau is likely to continue to be successful over the coming years, one expert has said.

Chris Marais, editor of Total Gambler magazine, mentioned recent live poker tournaments as an example of why he believes the Chinese administrative region's growth will persist, referring specifically to the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.

He also suggested that the size of a number of the resorts in Macau and the companies and brands involved could help with continued success.

"There are new huge hotels and casinos opening quite regularly and there's a Venetian there now which is larger than the Las Vegas one," Mr Marais remarked.

The Venetian in Macau is one of the largest buildings on the planet and dwarfs even its vast sister site in Nevada.

It is owned by Las Vegas Sands, which is one of a large number of gaming giants operating in the region, including Wynn Resorts and MGM Mirage.
