Casinos weather storm in Biloxi

2008-09-02 16:35:33

Louisiana's Biloxi casinos have not been hit too badly by Hurricane Gustav, which passed over the region earlier this week, it has been reported.

Duncan McKenzie, the general manager of the local Hard Rock Casino, told SunHerald.com that his facility "held up extremely well" and that the famous guitar-shaped sign was left on over Sunday night, despite rising water.

Rick Carter, who is one of the owners of the Island View Casino Resort, said "the Mississippi Gulf Coast seems to have fared well" in the wake of the storm.

This compares to when Hurricane Katrina landed three years ago, devastating the area.

Indeed, the Hard Rock was one of the resorts that had to undergo several months of repair work after Katrina hit.

In other US casino news, mayor Vicente Garza Jr. is hoping a gaming resort will boost the economy of south Texan town Granjeno, the Associated Press reports.
