Mohegan Sun's Project Horizon on its way

The Casino of the Wind, a new gaming venue situated at Connecticut's mega-resort the Mohegan Sun, will open next week, it has been announced.

Part of the Project Horizon extension, which will cost close to $1 billion in total, the 64,000 sq ft location is arguably the "best work yet" of the Mohegan's architects the Rockwell Group, according to chief executive Mitchell Etess.

"We are very excited to reveal Casino of the Wind to the world," the president remarked, adding that the designers "have outdone themselves".

The casino will feature 650 slot machines, alongside a restaurant, bar and 28 table games.

Its opening will be followed by a series of events in October designed to celebrate the third major expansion in the history of the Mohegan Sun, one of the largest resorts on the planet.

Connecticut is renowned for having two of the biggest gambling facilities in the world, with the Mohegan Sun matched in size by its neighbour the Foxwoods Resort Casino.
