Potawatomi files lawsuit against Harrah's

2008-08-19 14:37:12

A tribe of American Indians in Kansas is taking legal action against a major casino operator.

Harrah's Entertainment has been hit with a lawsuit from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, which believes it has gone back on an earlier agreement.

The company is currently in the running to build and manage a new casino near Mulvane.

However, the tribe believes this goes against its earlier commitment not to develop or expand the gambling sector in Kansas for a reasonable amount of time.

Speaking to the Topeka Capital-Journal, the tribe's attorney Russ Brien said: "The petition alleges Harrah's active involvement in a proposed casino in Sumner County is in clear violation of the non-compete agreement."

Harrah's Entertainment has so far refused to comment on the pending legal action.

The company is currently one of the largest casino operators in the world, running facilities in four different continents through a number of subsidiaries.
