2008-08-15 14:51:01

A Texan woman has won a jackpot in excess of $2 million (£1 million) playing on nickel slots.

Melissa Gail Ray of Jacksonville, Texas was playing at the Eldorado Resort Casino in Shreveport when she got lucky, reports the Associated Press.

The 43-year-old was playing on the Wheel of Fortune when she won the statewide progressive MegaJackpot.

Ms Ray stated that she will put her winnings towards paying off her car and some of her other debts.

She added that she intends to continue in her job as an air conditioning brazier.

In related news, a Florida resident has been arrested after making false claims to the police that a slot machine at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino stole his money.

The 47-year-old Carlos Guiterrez placed two calls to the emergency services, one while he was at the casino, the second soon after leaving.

Police are holding him and are to charge him with making false 911 calls.
