Nevada and AC revenues 'to go in opposite directions'

2008-06-20 15:54:03

Mixed fortunes lie ahead for the two biggest casino markets in the US.

At least this is according to a new report from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which predicted that gaming revenues in Nevada will have increased by 2012, while earnings in Atlantic City, New Jersey will fall.

The Associated Press reported the expectations, which suggested Las Vegas and Reno will recover from the current economic slump hitting the US, while AC will not.

Nevada's revenues will rise from $12.8 billion last year to $14.8 billion and AC's will fall from $4.94 billion to $4.74 billion, PWC predicts.

Meanwhile, global casino revenues should go up from $114 billion in 2007 to $155 billion, according to the financial consultancy.

AC has been hit hard by recent economic conditions and the recent imposition of a smoking ban, which property mogul Donald Trump claimed would affect the ability of the city's casinos to compete with those in nearby states.
