Officials in Atlantic City are entertaining the idea of removing a ban on casino workers holding public office in the region, it has been revealed.
Senators are currently trying to pass a bill that would get rid of the restrictions, which have been in place since casino gaming was allowed in 1977, Press of Atlantic City reports.
The man behind the move Jim Whelan remarked: "I think it's past time that these folks be given the chance to participate as fully as possible."
Atlantic City is the second biggest gaming destination in the US and one of the largest in the world.
Its casino industry has been in the news a lot recently, following reports of revenue declines and fears that a new smoking ban will further dent the profits of gambling companies.
Donald Trump, who now owns two resorts in the gaming mecca, announced last month that he is selling off his third property, the Trump Marina Hotel Casino.
