Stuart Ungar is as good as any blackjack player ever to walk this earth, it has been suggested.
In an article on ten great moments to have taken place at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) over the years, Casino City Times writer Vin Narayan suggested Ungar was just as accomplished at 21 as he was at gin rummy and no-limit Texas hold'em.
Ungar won the WSOP main event in 1980 and 1981 before scoring an unprecedented third title in 1997 in one of the sport's greatest comebacks.
He was arguably even better at gin rummy and considered it to be the one discipline where his talents would never be surpassed.
However, his blackjack skills are rated highly too, as Mr Narayan explains.
"Whether, it was poker, gin rummy or blackjack, Stu Ungar was arguably the best that ever played," the reporter said.
"His photographic memory and sheer genius made it almost impossible to beat him."
