Asia to surpass US as gaming power?

2008-06-03 15:43:43

Asia could become the new world power in the casino industry, experts believe.

A study by the America Gaming Association (AGA), which involved interviewing a host of industry insiders and analysts, revealed that over 80 per cent expect Asia to be generating more revenue than the US in four years time.

The Chinese resort of Macau is already the wealthiest casino destination in the world, surpassing Las Vegas two years ago.

It has been predicted by many that Macau will soon be earning more money than the entire state of Nevada and other nations such as Singapore and Japan are looking to get in on the act.

Grank Fahrenkopf of the AGA commented: "The results ... foretell a remarkable future for the Asian gaming market.

"There is no doubt this is an exciting time in Asia for the gaming industry."

The most popular casino game in Macau by far is baccarat, accounting for more than half of the region's revenues.
