MGM Grand lands huge welterweight title fight

The MGM Grand casino is Las Vegas will host one of the most eagerly anticipated boxing matches of the year on July 26th.

It was confirmed today that the MGM Mirage-owned resort has been chosen as the venue for WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto's clash with IBF titlist Antonio Margarito.

Both pugilists are considered to be among the best and most exciting in the world and many experts are predicting a possible fight of the year.

The MGM Grand has strong links with the sport of boxing and has been used as the venue for some of the most important contests of the last decade.

Mike Tyson had all six of his bouts between 1996 and 1999 at the casino, including his infamous re-match with Evander Holyfield where he bit off his opponent's ear.

More recently the MGM Grand hosted Oscar De La Hoya's and Ricky Hatton's megafights with Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2007.
