Potawatomi Casino 'to help Milwaukee tourism'

2008-05-13 16:39:18

The Potawatomi Bingo Casino's ongoing extension will help Milwaukee's tourism industry towards another good year.

At least this is what Doug Neilson has suggested in his Small Business Times column.

Visit Milwaukee's chief executive wrote that a larger version of the gaming venue "will soon provide travelers with even more reasons to visit" along with the new Discovery World and the Harley-Davidson Museum.

More people were employed by the state's tourist industry during 2007 than in the previous year and expenditure rose too.

Mr Neilson implied that Milwaukee had stood up well to increased oil prices, although it is possible the Potawatomi site may not give the region quite the boost he hopes.

The casino industry in the US has suffered due to economic pressures during the first three months of this year, with major companies such as Harrah's Entertainment, MGM Mirage and Wynn Resorts all reporting decreases in revenue during the first quarter.
