River Rock to host WPT Canada today

The River Rock Casino Resort in British Columbia, Canada will be the home of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Canada series for the next week.

Several top card players will be in attendance, including Canadian World Poker Tour titlist Gavin Smith and Iranian World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder and fellow WPT winner Antonio Esfandiari.

The Coast to Coast Poker Championships event gets underway today, with the two-day $3,000 main event starting on May 9th. The last competition will be held on May 13th.

Steve Lipscomb, WPT's founder, commented: "It was only a matter of time before WPT offered a tailored tour unique to Canadian poker fans, and couldn’t be more thrilled to finally launch it today."

The WPT runs some of the biggest poker tournaments in the world outside of the WSOP and last week's Championship event at the Bellagio in Las Vegas paid out over $3 million to David Chiu for winning.
