Reports that officials in Macau are to put a stop to the region's rapid growth levels may be good news to casinos in Las Vegas.
The city has been overtaken by the Chinese gambling destination as the most lucrative casino capital in the world in recent years and Macau has been moving away from it at an incredible rate.
However, things could be about to change for the Nevada gambling Mecca. According to Reuters, Macau's chief executive Edmund Ho has announced the government is to cut down on the number of new gaming licences it gives out.
Companies will also be prevented from buying up anymore land for casino ventures.
Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau revealed last week that the former colony's gambling industry grew by a further 62 per cent during the first quarter of 2008.
Mr Ho commented: "At this stage we've held some assessments and discussions and followed the Central Government's (Beijing's) directives on the gaming industry and decided to take these policy measures."
